My Processes Preparing For The Recital

What barriers did I need to overcome in order to  carry out my set? I had to make sure to get rid of my indecisiveness when choosing songs for my set. In the beginning I tended to just choose songs I liked, instead of songs I could sing well. I would also sing a song, decide I didn't like it, take it out, and be left with a hole in my set. To overcome this I had to pick songs out of my repertoire, and sing them through everyday to make them stick in my head. After doing this I had a complete 20 minute set. I often found myself forgetting some of the lyrics in 'The Wizard and I'. It's quite a lengthy song, so while I was singing I was also thinking about what lyrics came next and ended up singing them in the wrong order. To overcome this I had to sing what I knew without thinking about other lyrics, and if I got stuck, look at a copy of the lyrics and start again. This was actually very effective and helped me with a lot of other songs as well. I also had trouble wit...

My Routine

My Practise Routine Term 1 At the start of term 1, I usually started by saying words that require me to properly use my mouth, like 'wow', to relax the muscles in my face, which is really important because you don't want a stiff face while singing. I find that sometimes my breathing isn't as good, so I work on that most days. I breathe in for 4, and say 'ah' for 10, 12, and 14. Once I've done this, I warm up further by singing songs that are low and then songs that are high. In term 1, I focused more on breathing as I struggled with that while singing. I would breathe in for four and out for eight to just relax, and then start with exercises. These included breathing in for four and singing 'ah' for eight, in for four and out for twelve and so on. Doing these exercises has improved my breathing a lot since I started, but I still include them in my routine so I can further improve. I have now included pronunciation/phrasing in my warm up ro...

20 Minute Set

What I think my 20 minute solo set will consist of: Never Enough- Loren Allred, The Greatest Showman The Wizard and I- Wicked the Musical The Heart Wants What It Wants- Selena Gomez Gravity- Sara Bareilles Spotlight- Jennifer Hudson Wild Enough-Elina This isn't yet 20 minutes as I'm still changing around songs. 1 and 2  are definite. I do musical theatre but I didn't want all of my songs to sound the same, so I chose a song from a musical, and a song from a musical film.  I found that I mostly sing pop songs, so the next three are that. However, these are not set in stone. If I decide not to change them, I will have to make sure that they don't all sound the same. To do this, I'll make sure I have a variation of backing tracks e.g piano, acoustic, or original.  Updated version of solo set Never Enough When The Party's Over Second Hand White Baby Grand Without Me The Wizard and I Let You Love Me I chose to change the last four songs on...
